We believe in the power of storytelling that spans generations and cultures. This initiative is designed to support new works that explore AAPI immigrant experiences in innovative and bold ways. Our artistic team identifies a desired story and or an artist that would aptly reflect the world we live within through that unique lens.

Commissioned works are time agnostic and follow the entire project’s lifecycle from origination to production. During this journey, Yangtze Rep will support the artist and the project as producer, artistic advisor, fiscal sponsor, or any of the combinations. Our most recent commission project was Clubhouse. During the pandemic shutdown, we were looking for an overarching theme that could reflect the pains and the collective losses we experienced, as well as the yearning for intimacy and human interactions. After the tragic shooting at the Atlanta spa in 2021, we commissioned five writers of Chinese heritage to adapt stories from the 18th Century Chinese classic Strange Stories from A Chinese Studio (Liaozhai Zhiyi) - the result was Clubhouse, a miniseries of virtual storytelling featuring one-act plays focusing on Asian American experiences.

As we look to 2025 and beyond, we are excited to breathe life into new projects and support artists within our community. Stay tuned.
